The year was 1998. A stirring, an awakening, and the wind of God’s Spirit began to blow in Potter County, Pennsylvania. As a result of that stirring, in February of 1999, Door of Hope Ministries, Inc., was birthed in New York City. From the earliest origins this ministry, now known as PNEUMA-Winds of Hope, our true mission has been to share the love of Jesus Christ through the avenues of prayer, proclamation and provision throughout the world.

Over the past 13 years, this ministry has used Isaiah 58: 6-14 as its GPS (God’s Perfect Steps). We devote ourselves to fulfilling the daunting task of Matthew 25: 40, “assuredly, I say to you, whatever you do for the least of these, My brethren you did it to Me”. The ideals captured in the verses contained in Isaiah have led us to our present day ministry - seeking freedom for the captives, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, taking in the homeless. Earnestly seeking Him and calling out to Him has led this ministry on a journey. By seeking and finding Him, we have seen the Lord in His glory be our rear guard, His light shine forth and His continued guidance in our efforts.

In 2008, the ministry underwent its name change to PNEUMA. John 3:8 says, “The wind blows as it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit”. This is our desire, that people see the fingerprints of God all over our ministry.
Following our response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it became evident that God wanted us to be a ministry that was “fluid”. “Fluid” is an interesting word, giving the visual that you will flow with the water, not seek to control it, contain it, and find purpose in the journey. So it is of those born of His Spirit….and of PNEUMA-Winds of Hope.

The ministry has long embraced the life of Jesus as the perfect model of ministry. He spent His time among the people, walking with them, healing, embracing, feeding and even weeping with them. As such, we His people, attempt to be “Jesus with skin on” to the world around us.

PNEUMA’s home base has been Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, since 10 days after Hurricane Katrina. Our central focus remains to be a part of the total recovery of this community and county in spirit, soul and body. We desire to be daily devoted to helping people rebuild their lives, homes and community through exceptional acts of ordinary kindness, always done with great love. The ministry is blessed to have a yearly youth event, The Stirring, that found conception in Bay Saint Louis, on McDonald ball field as a group of teenagers and their parents came to serve. Since that time, we have facilitated events in Houston, Birmingham, Pittsburgh and, this year, San Francisco, California.

We could say much about where we have been; however, forgetting what is behind and pressing on ahead, we keep our focus on the journey that God has for us - loving Him, loving others.

May God fill you with His great love and peace. Please enjoy our website, and we would love to hear from you, via email, text or phone.
